Diabetes Education & Other Outpatient Nutrition Counseling
For many, the secret to a healthier life is education. The more you know,
the easier it is to control your body and your condition. If your diabetes
control changes while you are in the hospital, you may be visited by our
diabetes nurse educator or by a dietitian if you or your doctor make a
request. Please let your nurse know so she can contact us.
If you have diabetes or have been newly diagnosed with diabetes, the Diabetes
Education Program at the Gloria Drummond Physical Rehabilitation Institute
offers a number of courses designed to educate patients and their families.
The classes cover the following educational information: general pathophysiology;
glucose monitoring; exercise; medications; signs and symptoms; treatment
of hypo and hyperglycemia; prevention and care of chronic complications;
personalized meal plans; dining out; label reading; stress management
and incorporating changes into your lifestyle.
