Concussion Program
A concussion is an injury to the brain caused by a fall, bump, blow or
jolt to the head which can affect memory, judgment, moods, sleep, speech,
vision, balance, coordination and functional ability. Concussions can
occur to any individual regardless of activity level or age. It is considered
as a mild form of traumatic brain injury in which symptoms can last for
days, weeks or longer with the period of recovery varies among older adults,
teens and young children.
At Gloria Drummond Rehabilitation Institute, we offer a comprehensive interdisciplinary
assessment and individualized management for both Sports and Non-Sports
Related Concussion injuries.
Our team is composed of dedicated physical therapists and speech pathologists
who specialize in treating wide array of neurological symptoms caused
by concussion. Symptoms that may occur with concussion are headaches,
dizziness, balance difficulties, visual changes, sensitivity to light
and noise, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, memory deficits, poor concentration,
confusion, mood changes, and changes in sleep. With proper assessment
and a closely monitored treatment program, most clients will fully recover
with minimal residual deficits.

The Institute also has specialized equipment that we use to augment our
concussion rehabilitation treatments. These include the Neurocom Balance
Master, Trazer, BITS and the anti-gravity treadmill- Alter G.
