Volunteer opportunities are available through the Debbie-Rand Memorial
Service League, Inc.
Auxiliary to the Boca Raton Regional Hospital
What is the purpose of the League?
The purpose of the League is to coordinate all volunteer services, to raise
funds and to initiate beneficial activities in support of the not-for-profit
Boca Raton Regional Hospital.
Why be a volunteer?
Volunteers make a better world. You will make new friends as you serve
the needs of your community. Always remember - a gift of time is just
as important as a gift of money! The rewards are gratifying – over
and over volunteers are heard to say, “I get back more than I give.”
Each year hundreds of people serve as Debbie-Rand Memorial Service League
volunteers, meeting the needs of patients, their families and the staff
at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Our volunteers are an integral part of
the hospital: acting as hospital ambassadors to patients, employees and
visitors; assisting patients and staff on a nursing unit; raising funds
for equipment and services; serving on an event planning committee; helping
with our Pet Therapy program; delivering flowers and so much more. They
include high school and college students, adults and retirees and even
former patients. They play valuable and meaningful roles in the lives
of our patients throughout our hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the process for becoming an Adult Volunteer?
When you complete the application, you will be asked to select an orientation
date. Orientations are normally held the second Tuesday of every month.
After the initial orientation, we will conduct a background check on all
prospective volunteers. Once we receive satisfactory results, we will
call you to schedule an interview. At that time, we will discuss your
interests and availability to volunteer. You will also be asked for $35.00
paid by check or cash. This covers your membership dues ($10.00) and uniform
jacket ($25.00).
I am in high school and would like to volunteer.
The Teen Volunteer (TAV) is available for high school teens. We offer
the program twice per year. We have a Fall TAV Program and a Summer TAV
Program. Please refer to the
TAV page for more information.
How many hours do I have to volunteer for?
Volunteers are asked to serve a minimum of one, four-hour shift per week.
Is there a minimum time commitment for volunteers?
We ask for a six-month commitment, but we hope that you will continue
to volunteer for long after that.
I only want to volunteer in a certain department. Will you accommodate me?
Volunteer assignment will be made in accordance with your abilities and
availability. However, the needs of the hospital will be the ultimate
determining factor.
I am in school working for my certificate / degree in healthcare; will
I be able to practice these skills while I volunteer?
Volunteers perform supplementary and complementary work for the departments
with which they serve. Volunteers do not perform any clinical duties even
if they have received training or possess certification.
Will I be able to shadow a nurse, physician, or other healthcare professional
while I am volunteering?
Volunteers who are interested in shadowing should contact the BHSF Graduate
Medical Education Office at (786)-467-2633.
