Lynn Cancer Institute Tailors Image Enhancement Program to Meet the Unique
Needs of Men
BOCA RATON, FL – January 28, 2019 – The Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute (LCI) at Boca Raton
Regional Hospital has created image enhancement programs for patients
undergoing cancer treatment. The Be U Tiful and Him II programs help participants
improve their mood, well-being and overall outlook on life by offering
techniques to enhance their physical appearance.
The programs are separated by gender to meet the specific needs of its
participants. The Be U Tiful program addresses the issues of women while
Him II focuses on the side effects experienced by men. Him II was developed
to offer services to men that are typically only available to women.
“Men are often overlooked in how they feel about their physical
appearance during cancer treatment,” said Darci McNally, Director
of Oncology Support Services & Community Outreach at LCI. “We
created Him II as a safe space for men to learn image enhancement techniques
such as selecting wigs and offering basic skincare tutorials.”
Both programs teach techniques on coping with skin changes, hair loss,
hand and nail care, scar camouflage and other cancer treatment related
conditions. Each session is led by licensed cosmetologists with over 30
years of experience in the beauty and wellness field. The programs are
open to anyone in active treatment up to one year post-treatment and not
limited to only those receiving care at LCI. All participants receive
a complimentary cosmetic/grooming kit to take home and put their teachings
to everyday use.
LCI offers a wide array of programs, classes and events to help its patients
cope with a cancer diagnosis and improve their quality of life following
treatment. “The addition of these programs complement the spectrum
of outreach services we provide to our patients,” said Louise Morrell,
MD, Medical Director of LCI.
About Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute
The Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn CancerInstitute is one of the largest
cancer centers in South Florida and is accredited as a Comprehensive Cancer
Center by the American College of Surgeons. The Lynn Cancer Institute
treats more than 4,000 patients each year in facilities such as the Harvey
& Phyllis Sandler Pavilion, the state-of-the-art cancer center. While
traditional cancer treatment requires patients to travel from physician
to physician and manage their own scheduling, the Sandler Pavilion centralizes
services in one location. This simplifies the entire process for patients,
from diagnosis and treatment, to Wellness and Survivorship programs and
allows patients to focus on one thing — recovery.
More than 20 oncology physicians and a full complement of oncology professionals
are on staff to serve the patients at the Lynn Cancer Institute. Patients
receive treatment and services from specialists in genetics, surgery,
radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology and imaging. In addition,
staff includes research nurses, who improve patient access to clinical
trials and the most advanced forms of treatment.
