BOCA RATON, FL – February 14, 2018 – As guests began lining up nearly two hours in advance for Mindful Boca
2018: An Evening with Glennon Doyle, a woman explained to volunteers at
registration that she had driven almost two hours for this sold-out event
featuring
New York Times best-selling author, of Love Warrior, an Oprah’s book club pick
(2016) and the founder of Momastery.com.
Mindful Boca 2018: An Evening with Glennon Doyle, was the largest event
to date for the Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life Wellness Series at Boca Raton
Regional Hospital. The series, which launched in 2016, is the brainchild
of Barb Schmidt, author of the best-selling book,
The Practice. Schmidt, founder of Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life, educates audiences at
the Hospital each month teaching on the health benefits of meditation
and mindfulness.
“The success of this event exceeded my expectations,” remarked
Barb Schmidt. “Michelle [Maros] and I knew that Glennon would be
just what our community needed to begin the new year. The calls, texts
and positive comments we continue to receive weeks after the event affirm
just how well Glennon’s message resonated with the audience.”
The event was held at Lynn University in the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson
Wold Performing Arts Center with presenting sponsor, Elaine Wold in attendance.
Sitting in the front row next to sponsor Morgan Green was Glennon’s
wife, Abby Wambach, retired soccer player, coach and two-time Olympic
gold medalist. Other sponsors include Anne Green, Christine Lynn, Lynn
University, Dr. Patricia Anastasio and Pat Thomas.
The format of the event was a living-room style conversation between Glennon
Doyle, Barb Schmidt and Michelle Maros. Glennon spoke on every day challenges
and how to overcome them with personal strength and resilience. She spoke
passionately about her activism work, and how we can all make a difference.
Glennon offered numerous personal antidotes on navigating tough times.
She reminded the audience that their children are watching and gave an
example of how travelers watch the flight attendants on a plane when the
skies get bumpy. When the plane hits turbulence, passenger’s first
look to see how the flight attendants react and if they see that the flight
attendants are cool and calm, they relax. Glennon explained that the same
holds true for life on the ground and by drawing on personal strength
we can help those around us to be strong and happy as well.
Schmidt adopted a practice of meditation over 30 years ago after a difficult
period in her life. Over the years, she has been on over 100 retreats
and studied with teachers around the world from Thich Nhat Hanh and Jane
Goodall to the Dalai Lama. In 2011, she and Michelle Maros founded the
non-profit organization Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life to bring mindfulness
teachings to the community and make them accessible to everyone. Through
their website, social media and inspirational, educational weekly messages
to their over 5 million followers, Barb and Michelle are creating a mindfulness
movement throughout the world.
