Boca Raton Regional Hospital's Center for Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Welcomes Acclaimed Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopist

BOCA RATON, FL – January 16, 2019 ­– Boca Raton Regional Hospital today announced the appointment of David G. Forcione, MD, to its medical staff as Medical Director of Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy, joining Dr. Stephen Steinberg as a member of The Center for Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy (CATE) and BocaCare® Physician Network. Dr. Forcione is a nationally known expert who specializes in interventional endoscopy, including disorders of the pancreas and bile ducts, early gastrointestinal malignancies (Barrett’s esophagus and complex colon polyps), and minimally invasive endoscopic therapies. He has a special interest in new device and technology implementation. Dr. Forcione most recently served as the acting head of Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at the Massachusetts General Hospital where he has been since 1998.

The Center for Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy offers the most advanced technology with highly specialized equipment to provide minimally invasive solutions for a range of gastrointestinal problems. Its physicians have performed more than 2,700 specialized ultrasound and interventional endoscopy procedures annually making them among the most experienced programs in the country.

CATE focuses on a comprehensive approach in treating disorders such as complications of gallstone disease, bile duct stones, bile duct strictures, biliary cancers, pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cysts, chronic pancreatitis, early cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, large polyps of the colon, stomach, or small intestine, Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal cancer, submucosal lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, and bowel obstructions.

Dr. Forcione earned his medical degree as valedictorian from Boston University School of Medicine, matriculating through the Seven Year BA/MD program. He completed his postgraduate training including internship, residency, clinical fellowship and research fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School where he also completed the Harvard Leadership Course.

While at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Forcione held numerous positions in the Division of Gastroenterology including Associate Director of Interventional Endoscopy and Chair of the Gastrointestinal Unit Device and New Technology Committees. He also participated in the training of over 50 physicians in their Advanced Endoscopy and Gastrointestinal Fellowships, and was the recipient of the Schapiro Award recognizing the best faculty teacher.

Dr. Forcione is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He has been published in such prestigious peer-reviewed publications as the New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Annals of Surgery, Archives of Surgery, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Journal of Biomedical Optics, Journal of Molecular Diagnostics and World Journal of Gastroenterology. He has been an invited speaker, both nationally and internationally, on a host of clinical topics in his specialty.
