A host of notable professional athletes to face off against the Palm Beach
County Police Department to raise funds for breast cancer programs
BOCA RATON, FL – March 4, 2019 – Boca Raton Regional Hospital
(BRRH) will be striking out breast cancer during the 10th Annual Pinkball
event on Saturday, March 9 at 9:00am. Proceeds from the event benefit
the Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute, through
the Hospital’s Go Pink Challenge, to support women in need of a
mammogram or breast ultrasound, but lack health insurance. The event will
be held at the South County Regional Park baseball fields, located in
West Boca Raton.
A dedication ceremony for 2018 Pinkball breast cancer survivor-Shannon
Lotitto will be held at noon followed by the singing of the national anthem
by America’s Got Talent star, Sal Valentinetti.
A special All-Star game, beginning at 1:00pm, will feature the Palm Beach
County Police Department against the Pinkball team consisting of professional
athletes and notable community supporters including:
- Ki-Jana Carter, former National Football League running back
- O.J. McDuffie, former National Football League – Miami Dolphins wide receiver
- Jeff Nelson, former Major League Baseball pitcher
- Jorge Posada, five-time All-Star, former Major League Baseball –
New York Yankees catcher
- Laura Posada, TV personality and motivational speaker
- Édgar Rentería, five-time All-Star, former Major League Baseball shortstop
- Tanyon Sturtze, former Major League Baseball pitcher
- Mo Vaughn, three-time All-Star, former Major League Baseball first baseman
- Preston Wilson, All-Star, former Major League Baseball center fielder
“I’m thrilled to see so many all-stars team up with the community
to support the Women’s Institute and this great initiative,”
said Tanyon Sturtze, former Major League Baseball pitcher and Pinkball
supporter.
The entire community is invited to attend and guests will have the opportunity
to mingle with the professional athletes. There will be family-friendly
activities including bounce houses and face-painting. Palm Beach County
will be displaying pink fire trucks and K-9 police dogs. Players will
don pink T-shirts and wristbands, as well as using pink bats and softballs,
to show support of breast cancer awareness.
ESPN West Palm Beach’s Street Team will host fun, interactive games
and distribute prizes. Paxton Boyd, ESPN and WPTV News Channel sportscaster,
will also be emceeing the day’s program and providing play-by-play
commentary during the All-Star game.

Pinkball started in 2008 by Boca Raton Regional Hospital employee, Michelle
Stallone, who wanted to make a difference in the lives of women who were
due for testing, but finding far too many were foregoing their care because
they simply could not afford the expense. She started Pinkball as an organization
founded by "baseball moms" who were moved to create a fund for
women in the community who are uninsured or under insured, and who may
not qualify for other types of grants/funds. Since the inception of Pinkball,
the event has grown and has raised nearly $500,000 over the past nine
years, all of which has been used to serve over 600 women in need. Even
