Boca Raton Regional Hospital Hosts International Physicians to Learn Best Practices and View Advanced Capabilities

Indonesian Breast Imaging Specialists Gain Insight from Lynn Women’s Institute

BOCA RATON, FL – April 4, 2019 – Indonesian radiologists who are members of the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) visited the Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute (Lynn Women’s Institute) to observe the Institute’s innovative approach in breast cancer detection and treatment. The group viewed methods in performing screening and diagnostic mammography, ultrasound and MRI, as well as biopsy and localization procedures. They also participated in a multi-disciplinary tumor board to learn how newly-diagnosed cancer cases are presented.

The visit transpired from a recent trip by Juliette The, MD, Lynn Women’s Institute Radiologist, to Indonesia as part of an international outreach program that provided educational lectures on screening programs and imaging modalities like those used at the Lynn Women’s Institute. She discovered that the Indonesian SBI Chapter had limited imaging capabilities and patients were often too late to receive optimal treatment. Dr. The invited the specialists to experience the breast imaging technology offered at Boca Raton’s facility.

“By sharing our expertise, visitors can bring home new techniques to their communities and implement more advanced strategies to better detect and treat breast cancer,” said Dr. The.

Since 2016, the Lynn Women’s Institute has been designated as the national show site for GE Healthcare's leading spectrum of cutting-edge imaging tools for detecting breast cancer. It serves as a GE training Center of Excellence where breast health providers from 26 states and seven countries have come to glean insights into the Institute’s technology, clinical protocols and best practices related to breast cancer screening.

The Institute is led by board-certified and internationally recognized radiologist, Kathy Schilling, MD. Under her stewardship, the Schmidt Family Center for Breast Care at the Institute has developed into the area's premier and most preferred breast program, performing nearly 100,000 screening and diagnostic procedures a year.

“From our renowned clinicians and advanced technology to our strikingly beautiful facility, our Institute has grown to become the touchstone in breast health, said Dr. Schilling. “We find satisfaction in inspiring others to enhance the level of care for women around the world.”
