The Run for the Ribbons at the Lynn Cancer Institute Gains Momentum in Its Seventh Year

BOCA RATON, FL – April 13, 2018 – Momentum keeps building in support of the seventh annual Run for the Ribbons 5K run/walk to benefit the League of Ribbons at Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute. The fun-filled family 5K starts off at 7:00am on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Sandler Pavilion at Lynn Cancer Institute and passes thru Old Floresta, Boca Raton’s most picturesque historic neighborhood.

People of all ages are encouraged to participate and fees range from $15 to $35 depending on age and date of registration. Well-known local retailer, Runner’s Edge, is managing the event and will be accepting race applications. From May 27 to June 2 race packets will be available for pick-up at their store located at 3195 N. Federal Highway in Boca Raton. T-shirts and finisher medals will be given to all pre-registered participants. Post-event refreshments will be served and runners who finish the race can view their Accuchip timing results.

In addition to the 5K, there is a one-mile walk/run for those interested in a shorter distance. The cost is $15 to $25 depending on age and registration date. If participants are unable to make arrangements ahead of time, registration opens at 6:00am the day of the event. At 6:30am, there is a group warm-up and the race begins promptly at 7:00am.

Darci McNally, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C, Director of Oncology Support Service and Community Outreach at the Lynn Cancer Institute founded the event and is gratified at the level of growth over the past seven years. According to McNally, “The race started off as a small grassroots effort to support the League of Ribbons and in just seven years it has blossomed into one of the hospital’s most anticipated community events with over a dozen sponsors and hundreds of participants.”

All proceeds from this fundraising raffle goes directly to the League of Ribbons. The League of Ribbons funds many different programs including, but not limited to, providing gift cards for groceries and gas, health and wellness programs for patients and the community-at-large and guided imagery, yoga and massage therapy for cancer patients in treatment.
