Leading Local Neurologists Join Marcus Neuroscience Institute At Boca Raton Regional Hospital

BOCA RATON, FL – April 17, 2017 – Boca Raton Regional Hospital announces the appointments of four highly regarded and respected neurologists in the region to the Hospital’s Marcus Neuroscience Institute and BocaCare® physician network.

Roy C. Katzin, MD, is a board-certified neurologist who has been in practice in Boca Raton for the past 31 years. Born and raised in South Florida, he attended Rutgers University and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine; he performed his internal medicine internship at the Medical University of South Carolina and his neurology residency at the University of Miami Hospitals and Clinics. He has held numerous clinical and leadership positions in the area over the years, including Stroke Director, Sleep Disorders Director, and Chief of Staff/Governing Board Member at Delray Medical Center, Stroke Director at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, President of Boca Raton Medical and Surgical Specialists, and Founder/President of Neuro VIP LLC. He has also been actively involved in local as well as national Telemedicine/Telestroke initiatives. Since the opening of the medical school at Florida Atlantic University, Dr. Katzin has been involved in the teaching of first and fourth year medical students, as well as internal medicine residents.

His clinical areas of interest include: dementias; cerebrovascular disease; Parkinson disease and movement disorders; and sleep disorders. Dr. Katzin will assume his duties on May 9.

Jonathan Harris, MD, attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. He performed his internal medicine internship and neurology residency at the University of Miami Affiliated Hospitals. Dr. Harris has authored and co-authored articles in such prestigious peer-reviewed publications as Annals of Neurology, Archives of Neurology and Neurology.

Dr. Harris’ clinical areas of interest include: multiple sclerosis; stroke prevention; dizziness and balance and clinical drug trials. Dr. Harris will assume his duties on June 5.

Marc Swerdloff, MD, attended Albany Medical College and performed his neurology residency at University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was an electromyography fellow at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Department of Neurology. Dr. Swerdloff has authored and co-authored articles in notable peer-reviewed publications as Journal of Clinical Neuro-Ophthalmology, Archives of Neurology and Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology.

A board-certified neurologist, Dr. Swerdloff’s clinical areas of interest include: electromyography; general neurology; migraine; myasthenia gravis; peripheral neuropathy and stroke. He will assume his duties on June 5.

Thomas C. Hammond, MD, is a board-certified neurologist. He attended New York University School of Medicine and performed his internal medicine residency at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center and his neurology residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

His clinical areas of interest include: Parkinson disease and gait disorders; neuroimaging; stroke and neuropathy. Dr. Hammond will assume his duties on June 5.
