Kathy Schilling, MD, Named A 2016 OPAL Award Winner

Kathy Schilling, MD, has been selected as the 2016 OPAL award winner for Medicine and Healthcare Leadership by the Rotary Club of Boca Raton. The Outstanding People and Leaders (OPAL) Awards recognize citizens in Boca Raton who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to serve their neighbors and our City through philanthropic, professional leadership (business), education, governmental (civic), community service and medical service endeavors.

Dr. Schilling, who is the Medical Director of the hospital’s Christine E. Lynn Women's Health & Wellness Institute, is a board-certified and internationally recognized radiologist. Under her stewardship, the Schmidt Family Center for Breast Care at the Institute has developed into the area's premier and most preferred breast program, performing nearly 100,000 screening and diagnostic procedures a year.

The Rotary Club of Boca Raton was founded in 1957 and its members are committed to changing lives and building futures to make Boca Raton’s community successful. This year’s 18th Annual OPAL Awards gala was held on Saturday, January 16 at Boca West Country Club. Proceeds from the gala will benefit the Club’s Service Missions, including Youth Scholarship Programs.

This year’s OPAL Awards recognized local leaders who exemplified the Rotary motto of “Service above Self.” Other honorees included Howard Schnellenberger, legendary football coach; Dr. John Kelly, President of Florida Atlantic University; Susan Haynie, Mayor of Boca Raton; Rabbi Jessica Spitalnic Brockman of Temple Beth El and Bill Allen, longtime Scholarship Chairman of The Boca Raton Rotary Fund's Scholarship Program.
