Only 10 of the State’s Hospitals So Honored
Officials at Boca Raton Regional Hospital today announced that the Institution
has been named as one of Florida’s 10 “Best Value Hospitals”
according to Verras Healthcare International’s Medical Value Index™.
Verras, which was founded in 1983, provides analysis and services to hospitals
and practitioners that are designed to enhance quality and cost efficiency.
Their Clinical Variation Solution has earned the exclusive endorsement
of the American Hospital Association (AHA).
Using a unique and patented methodology, Verras compared hospitals in
Florida with 250+ beds and measured three years of trended medical outcomes
using six universally accepted metrics of quality and cost efficiency.
The information was garnered from three years of Center for Medicare and
Medicaid Services MedPAR data and included:

National Quality Measures – A composite score of 24 National Hospital Quality Measures and 10 Hospital
Assessment of Providers & Systems (HCAHPS) patient satisfaction survey results.
- Readmission Rates – A composite score of thirty-day readmission rates
for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and pneumonia.
- Mortality – A composite score from the trend of nine risk-adjusted
mortality rates calculated for the top five Major Diagnostic Categories
(MDC’s) and three publicly reported thirty-day mortality rates.
- Morbidity – A score of a hospital’s morbidity (complications)
as judged by its length-of- stay for top Medicare diagnoses upon admission.
- Reduction In Variation – A hospital’s reduction in charge variation
in its top five clinical service areas.
- Resource Consumption – A hospital’s use of resources monitored
on charges based on its top five MDCs.
