CARE@WORK Employee-Wellness Program Offered by Boca Raton Regional Hospital

Multi-faceted program provides local companies with health, wellness solutions

Boca Raton Regional Hospital has partnered with Marathon Health, the nation’s leading provider of onsite health centers, to create the care@work workplace wellness program. Rooted in the belief that healthy employees are the cornerstone of a healthy company, the comprehensive program is designed to provide local companies and organizations with clinically validated work-based employee health and wellness solutions.

The multi-faceted care@work program acts as a “multi-vitamin” for employees, with services such as wellness seminars covering a wealth of topics (heart health, diet and nutrition, lifestyle and stress management). The program also provides health screenings and risk stratification to ensure employees “know their numbers” (blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose, BMI), and personalized health coaching and prevention programs (smoking cessation, diabetes management, one-on-one meetings with a dietitian). These services can be facilitated during employee health fairs or independently scheduled at the employers’ or employees’ convenience.

While care@work focuses on providing preventive healthcare services, should a need for specialty care or treatment arrive, care@work’s partnership with Boca Raton Regional Hospital means individuals have access to the academic medical center’s spectrum of advanced services.

“The benefits of workplace wellness programs are plentiful,” said Melissa Whelchel, Manager of Population and Corporate Health at Boca Regional. “They can lower absenteeism and employee-related healthcare costs. They can improve satisfaction and retention rates. Most importantly, they can make a positive impact on an employee’s health at an age when intervention can have a material impact on long-term health.”

Exemplifying its belief in the effectiveness and positive impact of care@work, Boca Raton Regional Hospital last year implemented the program for its own staff of over 2,100 employees. The @WorkCare program, as it’s known at Boca Regional, has been well-received and utilized thus far. More than 1,100 employees visited the onsite @WorkCare Health Center for sick care, health coaching and lab tests, with over 900 lab tests performed. Additionally, more than half of those employees with identified health-related risk factors have made significant improvements, pledging to live healthier, while working with the program’s coaches.

“The results of our first-year ‘Report Card’ show that care@work does indeed work,” said Whelchel. “Hundreds of our employees have taken measurable steps to manage risk factors and to take personal control of their health, from stopping in for a quick blood-pressure reading to meeting regularly with our certified dietitian. It all makes for a healthier, more productive workforce.”
