Boca Raton Regional Hospital Staff Member Earns Lifetime Achievement Award from Soroptimist International

Jan Dymtrow honored for her commitment to the community

Jan Dymtrow, Community Services Coordinator at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, has earned the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award from Soroptimist International of Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach. Dymtrow received the award during the organization’s annual Women of Distinction Breakfast this month.

The term soroptimist in Latin means “best for women.” To that end, Soroptimist International is a volunteer organization in which women work to improve the lives of other women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. The organization’s annual Lifetime Achievement Award honors a soroptimist who demonstrates a longstanding commitment to volunteer service.

Dymtrow has served at Boca Regional since 1994, but she has been an active volunteer in the community since 1989, beginning as a Eucharistic minister and a CCD teacher at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and School — where she still volunteers today. In addition to the church, Dymtrow’s service includes work with Hospice by the Sea, George Snow Scholarship Fund, Spirit of Giving Network, Florence Fuller Child Development Centers and Boca Helping Hands.

“Jan is the kind of person people love to be around, always offering a smile and a kind and gentle demeanor to everyone with whom she comes in contact,” said Lorraine Herdeen, from the non-profit American Association of Caregiving Youth, before presenting Dymtrow with the award. “We expect that her associates at Boca Raton Regional Hospital consider themselves blessed to work with Jan, as does everyone who calls her a friend — myself included.”

As Community Services Coordinator at Boca Regional, Dymtrow is a member of the Hospital’s Foundation and is hands-on in developing, organizing and implementing a variety of projects at the Hospital and within the community. Some examples include the annual Family Health Carnival, which provides free health screenings for the underserved; monthly education and wellness programs at the Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute; and her work with the League of Ribbons, an initiative created in 2012 to provide a broad variety of patient-service enhancements to those on the cancer journey, as well as their families, caregivers and the community at large.

“Jan Dymtrow’s outreach to the community extends far beyond her role at Boca Regional, and this award is permanent proof of that fact,” said Jerry Fedele, President and CEO at Boca Regional. “She has dedicated more than two decades of her life to improving the lives of others, and she has no doubt made a positive and lasting impact on all of the individuals she has assisted over the years.”

Further exemplifying her selfless and generous nature, Dymtrow remained humble after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award and stressed that she was no more deserving of the honor than any one of her fellow, hard-working soroptimists.

“I am very fortunate to have received this award,” Dymtrow said. “There are so many throughout the community who do so much for others through their hours of volunteering and service, and I am honored to serve as a representative for these ‘Women of Distinction.’”

In addition to Dymtrow receiving the award, Louise Morrell, MD, Medical Director at Boca Regional’s Lynn Cancer Institute, was nominated for a 2014 Women of Distinction Award. Women of Distinction have made an outstanding commitment to community service, have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their careers or as professional volunteers and have inspired others to achieve what was once thought impossible, according to Soroptimist International’s criteria for nominations.
