Boca Raton Regional Hospital Earns "Gold Plus" Achievement Award for Quality Stroke Care

Highest honor awarded by American Heart/American Stroke Association

Boca Raton Regional Hospital has earned the American Heart/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The accolade is the top recognition category awarded by the American Heart/American Stroke Association and honors the Hospital’s continued commitment and success in implementing the highest level of stroke care. Boca Regional had previously received Silver Plus awards in 2012 and 2013.

Earning Gold Plus means the Hospital achieved at least 12 consecutive months of 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Achievement Measures and at least 75 percent compliance with five or more Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Quality Measures, as well as achieved Time to Intravenous Thrombolytic Therapy of 60 minutes or less in at least half of applicable acute ischemic stroke cases to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.

Boca Regional continues to advance its capabilities for treating stroke patients. The achievement comes as the Hospital prepares to open its Marcus Neuroscience Institute, which will serve as an innovative nexus of care for a spectrum of neurological conditions, including strokes and transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), often called “mini-strokes.”

“This award is the result of a true team effort by our doctors, nurses and staff members spanning several departments, from Emergency to Quality Management,” said Charles Posternack, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. “Demonstrating excellence in stroke care is just another step in providing our patients with the highest level of care in the neurosciences. Our clinical capabilities in stroke will be one of the distinguishing characteristics of the new Marcus Neuroscience Institute.”

According to the American Heart/American Stroke Association, strokes affect 785,000 Americans annually. The Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke program encourages hospitals’ ongoing adherence to the latest scientific guidelines for treating stroke. With an underlying goal of “turning treatment guidelines into lifelines,” the program provides participating hospitals with a variety of clinical tools and resources, such as access to the most recent research, as well as the American Heart/American Stroke Association’s online Patient Management Tool™ for reporting and tracking performance and patient care outcomes.
