Healthgrades distinction is based on outstanding patient outcomes across
27 medical procedures and diagnoses
A report released today by Healthgrades® named Boca Raton Regional
Hospital one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for 2014, which puts
the Hospital in the top one percent of hospitals nationwide. This makes
the fourth year in a row the Hospital has earned this prestigious accolade.
In order to earn a place on the list of America's 50 Best Hospitals,
a facility had to have mortality and complication rates low enough to
place them in the top five percent of hospitals in the nation for the
last seven consecutive years.

According to the report, if, between 2010 and 2012, all U.S. hospitals
had performed at the level of America’s 100 Best Hospitals, then
nearly 156,079 deaths could have been prevented. In other words, there
was a 23.29 percent lower risk-adjusted mortality rate for the hospitals
among the Healthgrades’ America’s 50 Best™ Hospitals
when compared to all other hospitals in the nation (across 19 procedures
and conditions where in-hospital mortality was the clinical outcome).
The organization considered nearly 4,500 hospitals, ranging in size from
100 beds to more than 500. The organization used seven years of Medicare
data and looked at the 27 most common diagnoses and procedures in the
Medicare population to do their analysis.

Boca Regional has also been named as a Healthgrades 2014 Distinguished
Hospital for Clinical Excellence™ for the tenth year in a row- only
24 of the nations’s 4,500 hospitals have earned such a consecutive
distinction. This designation places Boca Raton Regional Hospital among
the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for clinical performance.
